A judge has ruled in Jessica Simpson’s favour to keep a workout tape she featured in from being sold.
Simpson’s lawyers sued Speedfit LLC owner Alex Astilean for breach of contract, claiming that the video, which was shot in 2005, was unfit for sale even after a one-year editing period, reports The AP.
While her claim was denied, she and business manager David Levin were awarded upwards of $400,000 (£277,647) for court fees and defamation. The suit also prevents the use of Simpson’s name or image in any materials published by Speedfit.
Astilean has filed a counter-suit against Simpson and says that the current ruling has had devastating financial consequences for himself and his company.
“I worked for one year to edit a very good video, and now my video is nowhere. We lost the house, we lost everything. We don’t know how we’re going to survive,” he said.
Simpson’s lawyer John Rosenberg said: “My clients are extremely pleased with the arbitrator’s decision and are fully confident that the award will be confirmed by the court.”
